Library services
The NIOZ library is a hub for scholarly information in a wide variety of ways. This page details these different ways in which the library supports and works together with researchers to provide access to, advise on and disseminate scientific publications.
Traditional physical library at NIOZ Texel
The physical collection of scholarly books and journals situated at the Texel branch of NIOZ has publications covering centuries of research, from all over the world. A highly specialized (archival) collection for researchers diving into the research topics that connect to the NIOZ.

Open Access and modern scholarly communication
After the shift of scholarly publication to digital and online formats the NIOZ library has retooled as well, gaining expertise in navigating the online world of publishing and access to scholarly information. The growing global need to have scientific information accessible for all through the means of Open Science and, in particular, Open Access is supported by the NIOZ library in a variety of ways.
NIOZ repository
The NIOZ is committed to publishing their scientific findings in such a way that it is accessible to all interested parties. This is in line with the ambitions of NWO-I, the organisation to which NIOZ belongs. In order to facilitate this, the library manages the NIOZ repository, where all publications by NIOZ researchers (since 2011) are collected and (where needed) shared in an Open way.
This NIOZ repository is maintained in collaboration with our colleagues at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).
Access to the (physical) NIOZ library collection
Do you want to access the physical library at NIOZ Texel? NIOZ personnel has unlimited access to the library, both digital and physical. External researchers and other parties interested in accessing the library are requested to make an appointment with the NIOZ librarian.
