
Seagoing equipment
Science at sea requires specialized equipment for sampling. Our department NMF maintains, develops and operates a diverse pool of seagoing equipment for the marine science community in the Netherlands. Innovative and advanced research equipment such as gliders, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) have recently been obtained to use on the new research vessels.

Autonomy and robotics
The new Marine Robotics Center within NIOZ focuses on further developing and deploying innovative technologies such as gliders, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).

Cable connected equipment
We have various CTD systems for water sampling the water column. For biological sampling we provide nets, trawls and dredges. Furthermore an extensive selection of core samplers, grabs and dredges for sediment sampling and a HD video system to record live video streams are available.

Moorings and landers
Custom-designed moorings can be deployed for designated periods and water depths. They come with instruments such as sediment traps, ADCP’s, current meters, moored CTD’s or profilers. Bottom landers are subsea moorings who descends to the sea floor, carry out a series of tasks autonomously for periods of days to years.

Container laboratories
Our vessels can hold different laboratory and workshop containers on board, including specialised/licenced personnel to operate the equipment during the cruises. These containers provide additional laboratory facilities and work space on board our vessels.
