NIOZ has partnerships with numerous Dutch, European and global marine research platforms and universities. From regional to international: collaboration is one of our core values.
Our primary source of basic funding is the Dutch Research Council (NWO); we are part of the institute's organisation of NWO.Â
NIOZ has numerous ties with universities and research institutes. Many research projects are collaborations with other research organisations or societal partners. Several NIOZ scientists hold part-time professorships at universities in the Netherlands and Belgium. We share the responsibility with educational institutes to educate the next generation of marine scientists.
We further interact and collaborate with TO2 (applied research institutions), industry and non-governmental organizations. In addition, NIOZ is a well-established partner in governmental policymaking, from a local to an international level. We combine forces with our European and global counterparts, for example in the European Marine Board and by participating in the United Nations Ocean Decade Initiative.Â
